Overview

Located just 10 miles from St Remy de Provence, Bastide de L'ilon is more alike a Castle than a farmhouse. Long ago it was a "Relais de chasse" or Hunting Lodge. Now completely refurbished and sumptuously decorated, this aristocratic XVIII century mansion awaits your group of up to 12 guests with 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.

Surround yourself in the splendor of days past with a luxurious and tasteful ensemble of antiques and art while enjoying the comfort of large bedrooms and modern en-suite bathrooms.

5 luxurious bedrooms and their bathrooms are located on the first floor (upstairs). There is a private apartment on the top level with eat-in kitchen, living area and bedroom and bathroom. The apartment is not decorated to quite the same standard as the 5 bedrooms on the floor below, however is ideal for young adults/ couples or a nanny.

Very special care has been taken in the design of the large garden, large pool and private all weather tennis court. An outdoor Jaccuzi awaits for those of us who can't find a pool warm enough!

Situated on the banks of the Rhone at the crossroads that lead to Avignon, Camargue and le Luberon, Tarascon is still today associated with the legend that supposedly took place here in the year 48AD.

The legend goes that Martha came from Palestine to Tarascon where there ruled at the time a terrible amphibian monster called Tarasque. With great courage the saint miraculously tamed the monster.

Since that time pilgrims come to visit the Collegiate Church St. Martha which was built in her honor not far from the chateau Rene (one of the most beautiful medieval castles in France).

Tarascon inspired other stories, in particular Tartarin de Tarascon by Alphonse Daudet in 1872. A house in the center of the city is dedicated to hirn. You should visit it after having strolled through the picturesque streets, one being the Halles a Arcades, or the Arc de Boqui (covered) and the rue des Juifs.

Tarascon is also proud to have the Souleïado rnuseum that exhibits the famous Provençal fabric. It is in a 14thc. building in the center of town. This traditional cloth is still being manufactured by the Carles Demery factory and is exported throughout the world.

Getting here:
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseilles International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV(high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV(3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.

Terms and Conditions

Arrival: Saturday

Minimum Stay: 1 week, please inquire for exceptions

Includes: Final cleaning and any additional maid service as described above.

Confirming your reservation: We will send a rental agreement by fax, email or regular mail. The rental agreement will specify the rental price, the amount of security deposit and the maximum number of overnight occupants.

Initial payment: The signed rental agreement and payment of the 50% deposit using a check or bank wire transfer(preferred) must be received within 7 seven days to confirm the reservation. The second 50% is due 60 days before arrival - we will email you a reminder 75 days before your arrival.

Payment acknowledgment: Immediately upon receipt of your initial or final payment we will mail you an Acknowledgement of Payment. The Acknowledgement will note the remaining balance, if any, and when the payment is due.

Final payment The second half of the rent and any security deposit are due in our offices 60 days before the first day of your rental. We must strictly adhere to this procedure, and failure to comply could result in cancellation of the booking. Don't worry about forgetting -- we'll remind you if your payment is not received on time.

Cancellation Cancellation of a confirmed reservation is a painful event for both owner and renter. The renter cancels because of some unexpected hardship; meanwhile the owner may have turned away rental opportunities and thus lost revenue. We have a no refund cancellation policy, but usually succeed in rescheduling cancelled reservations to the Spring or Fall or booking the cancelled period to another group and refunding the party that cancelled. Failure to pay the final balance which is due 60 days before arrival may be deemed a cancellation with no refund due. Security deposits are fully refundable. Clients are strongly urged to take out Trip Cancellation Insurance with the carrier of their choice at the time of confirmation. We can send a Travel Insurance quote to US or Canadian residents for all or part of the cost of your trip. We would need the name, birth date, airline carrier, dates of travel and amount of money to be covered for each guest who would like to be insured. Please inquire for a quote.

Security Deposit: The security deposit is taken as a signed promise that we can charge your credit card for any unpaid damage or expenses incurred during your stay. It is very rare that we ever charge a card - we inform our guests before doing so. Reasonable wear and tear is not charged for, but the cost of missing or damaged items will be deducted from the deposit.

Extra Charges The rent includes taxes, standard utilities and maid service as noted above. Additional maid or other services can be arranged and are charged for separately. In cold months November through April there is an additonal 100 euro per week charge for heating cost.
