Overview

The Château de Goult dates back over 800 years, with 21st. Century additions are 21st century of bathrooms, satellite TV and wireless internet. For a medieval castle, it is surprisingly cozy. It sleeps 14 adults in 5 star comfort and up to 10 more guests in additional 3 star accommodations. There are 5 double bedrooms, a twin room, and a single, as well as a suite than can either be a double or a dormitory for children. There are 6 bathrooms. The château is at the top of the village of Goult, one of the hill-top villages of Provençe and the Luberon natural park's best-kept secret. Goult has everything available on foot: beautiful winding streets, good restaurants, food shops, a central café on the square, and no tourist buses. The Luberon is where ‘A Year in Provence' is set. There is a lovely garden over three levels, with high arching trees and a swimming basin measuring 8m x 2.5m. Despite its scale, the château is impressive but not imposing. Rooms are light and spacious, most with views over the village towards the Luberon Mountains.

Google Map

The Château is located in the beautiful medieval hill-top village of Goult, in the Luberon region of Provence, which is where Peter Mayle wrote his book "A Year in Provence". It is a region noted for its beautiful landscapes of vineyards, orchards and lavender, with very picturesque hill-top villages dotted about. It is an hour north of Marseille and close to Avignon, Arles, Aix, Nîmes, the Camargue, Orange, Mont Ventoux, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and the Rhône wine trail. In summer there are art festivals everywhere, from the famous one at Avignon, to the international piano festival at La Roque d'Antheron, to small local events. Goult has the well-loved Café de la Poste in its square, which is where locals and visitors gather for a coffee or meal. There are good restaurants, and small shops like a bakery, butcher and greengrocer. Just minutes from Gordes, Roussillon and Bonnieux.

Getting here:
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseilles International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV(high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV(3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.

Terms and Conditions

Arrival: Saturday

Minimum Stay: 1 week - please inquire about exceptions outside the summer months

Includes: Final cleaning and any additional maid service as described above.

Confirming your reservation: We will send a rental agreement by fax, email or regular mail. The rental agreement will specify the rental price, the amount of security deposit and the maximum number of overnight occupants.

Initial payment: The signed rental agreement and payment of the 50% deposit using a check or bank wire transfer(preferred) must be received within 7 seven days to confirm the reservation. The second 50% is due 60 days before arrival - we will email you a reminder 75 days before your arrival.

Payment acknowledgment: Immediately upon receipt of your initial or final payment we will mail you an Acknowledgement of Payment. The Acknowledgement will note the remaining balance, if any, and when the payment is due.

Final payment The second half of the rent and any security deposit are due in our offices 60 days before the first day of your rental. We must strictly adhere to this procedure, and failure to comply could result in cancellation of the booking. Don't worry about forgetting -- we'll remind you if your payment is not received on time.

Cancellation Cancellation of a confirmed reservation is a painful event for both owner and renter. The renter cancels because of some unexpected hardship; meanwhile the owner may have turned away rental opportunities and thus lost revenue. We have a no refund cancellation policy, but usually succeed in rescheduling cancelled reservations to the Spring or Fall or booking the cancelled period to another group and refunding the party that cancelled. Failure to pay the final balance which is due 60 days before arrival may be deemed a cancellation with no refund due. Security deposits are fully refundable. Clients are strongly urged to take out Trip Cancellation Insurance with the carrier of their choice at the time of confirmation. We can send a Travel Insurance quote to US or Canadian residents for all or part of the cost of your trip. We would need the name, birth date, airline carrier, dates of travel and amount of money to be covered for each guest who would like to be insured. Please inquire for a quote.

Security Deposit: The security deposit is taken as a signed promise that we can charge your credit card for any unpaid damage or expenses incurred during your stay. It is very rare that we ever charge a card - we inform our guests before doing so. Reasonable wear and tear is not charged for, but the cost of missing or damaged items will be deducted from the deposit.

Extra Charges The rent includes taxes, standard utilities and maid service as noted above. Additional maid or other services can be arranged and are charged for separately. In cold months November through April there is an additonal 100 euro per week charge for heating cost.
