Whether you are a distinguished wine taster or just simply someone who enjoys a good glass, there is something for everyone in the world of wine here in Provence-from a simple fresh and fruity Rosé to a complex full bodied Chateuaneuf-du-Pape.
Our suggestion for those visiting the region is to initially explore your immediate surrounding wineries, those closest to your rental house. Enjoy getting a taste for the particular balance and flavors of the wines for this region. There is no need to reserve or call ahead, just stop in. At almost all wineries you will find a sign for the "cave" where anyone can enjoy a "degustation" (tasting) free of charge. In general you will find the wines in Provence very reasonably priced compared to those in North America with prices ranging from 5 euros - 12 euros at local wineries. You might even do as the locals do and have a container filled with wine "en vrac" (in bulk) for just a little over 1 euro a litre.
For an introduction to more serious wines, one must definitely spend a day touring and tasting in the famous Chateauneuf-du-Pape region and its neighboring areas of Vacqueyras and Gigondas. La Cave du Vergers des Papes offers wine tasting courses priding themselves in representing the very best of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines. They can also arrange for shipping of wine internationally. Many of our guests have said that their late morning tastings and courses, followed by a leisurely lunch have been the highlight of their trip. Please call or email the cave to pre-arrange your course.
